I am an Associate Professor of Classics and Fellow of Jesus College Oxford. In 2011 I published a monograph on ‘The Greeks and the New: novelty in ancient Greek imagination and experience’ (CUP), and my main research area since then has been ancient Greek music. Formerly a professional cellist, I have written numerous articles about the interface of classical scholarship on ancient music and its practical realities, and I am currently writing a book on the subject. My professional collaboration with scholars and musicians from across the world led to a concert in the British Museum in July 2016 of the first research-led performance of items of ancient Greek music using ancient scores and replica instruments.
