Carl Hildebrand

DPhil Candidate

Carl Hildebrand is currently a DPhil candidate in philosophy at University College, where he also works as a Junior Dean.

Carl's research is at the intersection of moral psychology and the history of ethics; he is particularly interested in the nature of virtue, moral education, and the role of emotion and cognition in moral action. His doctoral thesis is on Immanuel Kant's theory of moral character. Carl also has a background in applied ethics: among other things, he has been an honorary lecturer and advisor in ethics at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine and a member of the L'Arche community in Ottawa, Canada.
