Curating History

Tuesday, March 7, 2017 - 5:00pm
Faculty of History, George Street, Oxford, OX1 2RL
Rees-Davies Room

Work in Progress (WiP) is a new Faculty wide graduate seminar in history. WiP aims to go beyond traditional areas of specialisation by bringing together graduates engaging with similar questions and approaches, but working on different regions and time periods. Every week, three students present 20-minute papers that address a common issue in historical research (sources, methods, tools) or that engage in conversation with a theme that cut across chronological and geographical boundaries. The papers are followed by a 30-minute general discussion and by informal drinks.

This week, the seminar is on 'Curating History' and will include:

· Dominic Oldman (Wolfson College) Integrating objects into the dialectic of historical analysis

· Emily Knight (Trinity College) 'Reading Images': Engaging with the Ashmolean's Collection

· Emma Turnbull (Balliol College), Locating early modern women’s agency in English country houses

The event will be chaired by Rachel Delman.
