Visiting Student

Desmond Fonseca, the son of an Angolan mother and Cape Verdean father, is a visiting student from Tufts University studying History at Pembroke College for the 2018-2019 year, in addition to Africana and Colonialism studies at Tufts. A Laidlaw Scholar and Humanity in Action Fellow, Desmond’s studies focus on the international dimension of anti-colonial struggles of the 20th century, particularly in Portuguese African, and is currently conducting research on the politics and manifestation of trauma, memory and memorialization of revolutionary struggle in post-colonial Angola in preparation for a senior honors thesis.
