Joana Serrado

Gordon Milburn Junior Research Fellow in Mysticism

Joana Serrado has been interested in the work of female mystics since her bachelor studies in Philosophy. Her masters dissertation was based on the mystical writings of the Flemish Beguine Hadewijch of Antwerp (13th century). Since 2007, Joana has been working with Portuguese mysticism and feminist theory. Her PhD thesis focuses on the notion of 'anxiousness' (ancias) in a 17th century Cistercian nun, Joana de Jesus. Currently, Joana Serrado is working on other Portuguese-speaking women mystics in early modern Portuguese Empire as a Gordon Milburn Junior Research Fellow at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford.
