Mariachiara Leteo

DPhil Candidate

Mariachiara is a third-year DPhil candidate in English, working on a thesis in comparative literature which explores poetic effects in modernist prose and theories of prose style. Her doctoral project focuses on the idea of poetry through prose in the works of Virginia Woolf, Gertrude Stein and Emilio Cecchi. Before coming to Oxford, Mariachiara studied Italian Literature in Milan and then completed a MA in Comparative Literature at University College London. Although Mariachiara is specialising in the modernist period, she is fascinated more broadly by the study of literary style and theories of genres precisely because they illuminate the surprising connections between different authors across time and national boundaries.
