Serena Alessi


Serena Alessi is currently ‘Benno Geiger’ Fellow at the Fondazione Cini (Venice), for a project on Sibilla Aleramo’s private letters; in 2018 she will be Fellow at the Center of Italian Modern Art (New York), where she will work on the female myths of Alberto Savinio. In 2016/17 she was Postdoctoral Fellow at the British School at Rome, where she investigated the representation of the city of Rome in Italian Postcolonial women writers. In 2015 she received her PhD in Italian Studies from Royal Holloway University of London, where she also taught Italian language and culture. Her doctoral thesis focused on the myth of Penelope in Italian literature and is currently under consideration for publication; she also published on Luigi Malerba and Alberto Savinio.
Her research interests include contemporary Italian literature, feminist theory, women writers and postcolonial studies.
Serena is also a regular contributor to RaiUno TV programme Mille e un libro and to the literary blogCriticaLetteraria.
