Musician, performing artist, historian, teacher, and author Dr. Shruti Jauhari discusses the history and evolution of Indian classical music whose oral tradition spans 2000 years. This talk explores some of the unique features of Hindustani music, with a particular emphasis on rags, their colours, tonal qualities, idiosyncracies, and usage, as well as their relationship to seasons and time. This talk also explores some of the structural characteristics of compositions in Indian classical music, and the relation-ship between song, expression, and improvisation.
