With Dr. Shruti Jauhari, vocalist

Free | All welcome

The techniques employed in Hindustani music are quite different from those of Western classical music. This ‘Voice Culture’ workshop explores various aspects of Hindustani vocal technique, including pitch perfection, working on sustainable note production, breathing techniques, and methods for developing a three-octave range. After two decades of extensive study, research, and practice (Riyaaz), Dr. Shruti Jauhari now shares and teaches her specialism during her workshops and lecture-demonstrations. Her focus is enhancing the vital quality of the ‘raw and untamed’ voice, which is one of the main ingredients of Hindustani singing.

This is a mixed-ability workshop, open to all levels from absolute beginner to advanced singers interested in further exploring Hindustani vocal techniques. Audience members are welcome to observe. We especially invite those who may not feel comfortable participating, but who are interested to learn more about some of the practical approaches to Indian classical vocal technique from a highly trained Hindustani classical music artist, with a consistently stunning vocal range across 3½ octaves.
