AHRC New Generation Thinkers competition 2021

AHRC have launched a call for their New Generation Thinkers (NGT) scheme. This scheme offers early career researchers the opportunity to develop programmes for the BBC. If selected, you will work up ideas with BBC producers, get media and public engagement training, and a platform for informing and influencing public opinion, policy and practice.

Full details of how to apply can be found here: https://www.ukri.org/opportunity/develop-programme-ideas-with-the-bbc-new-generation-thinkers/  The deadline is 23 September – but applications go first to Research Services, and so you should aim to submit by the Research Services deadline of 16 September.

Eligibility: you should check the eligibility conditions carefully, but basically the scheme is open to those in final year of doctoral studies; or within 8 years of completing your doctorate; or if you started your first paid academic role in the last six years.

This scheme is one of the opportunities being run on the new UKRI Funding Service. The above webpage has details of how to create an account – and potential applicants are encouraged to do this as soon as possible to familiarise yourself with the new system’s features.  You can start on your application, and the system will allow you to submit any time from 1 Sept.

AHRC are offering two online webinars at which you can find out more about the New Generation Thinkers scheme (see under ‘Additional Info’ at the bottom of the above page). The webinars will take place on:

  • Wednesday 21 July 14:00
  • Wednesday 25 August 11:00.
