JULIA BINTER

Julia Binter is completing a DPhil in Social Anthropology. Her project focuses on material culture, memory and imperial contact in the Niger Delta from the 19th to the 21st centuries. This research has been funded by the AHRC, Royal Historical Society, Beit Fund, Caird Short-Term Research Fellowship, Godfrey Lienhardt Travel Grant and the Philippe Wiener-Maurice Anspach Foundation.

An important part of Julia's work is dedicated to co-creating and disseminating anthropological knowledge, and to engaging diverse publics. Since 2009 she has been teaching at the University of Vienna. Between 2010 and 2013 she worked as an assistant curator at the Africa Department of the Weltmuseum Wien, Austria. In 2016–17 she was a curatorial fellow in the programme ‘International Museum’ of the German Federal Cultural Foundation at the Kunsthalle Bremen, Germany, where she curated the exhibition ‘The Blind Spot. Bremen, Colonialism and Art’.
