TT 2017 Week 6 Updates

In Week 7 we take a bit of a breather after a whirlwind Week 6! The week began with the OCCT Discussion Groupand ended with the Poeting in Translation event at Waterstones, and Oxford Translation Day at St Anne’s and TORCH. Oxford Translation Day was absolutely epic, boasting a varied programme of talks, workshops and readings. Details are available here. We had a great audience turnout, and we were thrilled to see many MANY new faces at the event! The winner of the 2017 Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize was announced at the prizegiving at the close of Oxford Translation Day. Frank Perry won the Prize for his excellent translation of Lina Wolff's Bret Easton Ellis and the Other Dogs (And Other Stories).

The Prize judges said:

Although Swedish literature in translation tends to be dominated by crime thrillers, Lina Wolff’s debut novel, in Frank Perry’s marvellous translation, is proof that it has a lot more to offer the foreign reader. And yet, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a riddle or mystery at the heart of this book. The voice of our narrator Araceli Villalobos, a young woman living in a small Spanish town, pulled us in and didn’t let us go.”

Expect another blog later this week for details on OCCT’s events in Week 8!
