The Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship in Oxford and the Althea Foundation in San Francisco established the annual Robert Davies Memorial Essay Contest in 2015.
Each year, students and faculty from across the University of Oxford are invited to submit their essays on a specified topic. A total of £15,000 will be distributed between the best three entries.
The 2016 contest is now open, with the theme Accountability in the Digital Age: Social, Technological, Political and Commercial Implications.
In a world where technology is fast evolving and an integral part of our daily lives, it is critical for the interests of national security and personal privacy that clear digital accountability standards be maintained. These regulations and norms, however, often lag behind the revolutionary pace of technological progress. This award will encourage Oxford University students and / or current faculty to consider the challenges of digital accountability and theorize potential solutions combining the capabilities of public and private sectors.
