The POLAR X project explores women’s narratives of encounters, extractivism and exploration at the poles from the 19th century to the present using a multi-disciplinary approach including literature, politics, gender, Indigeneity and environmental history.

Prof. Michèle Mendelssohn is co-Principal Investigator on POLAR X, a research initiative whose first stage was made possible by partnerships between TORCH the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, Université Paris Cité's LARCA lab, CNRS, and l’Institut d’études avancées de Paris.

New York Times bestselling author and journalist Julia Flynn Siler reported on the POLAR X conference: Read more about Julia Flynn Siler's take on the conference.
