TORCH: A Year in View

It’s been a year and a term since I became Director of TORCH. It’s been a fascinating and frenetic time. Next summer (2025) TORCH will move into the new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, along with many other Divisional teams, Humanities Faculties, and research institutes. This landmark building offers exciting new opportunities for researchers, tutors and students to experiment with new ways of working together across disciplinary boundaries and to work with the wider local and global community. TORCH has played, and continues to play, a key role in our shared journey into the Schwarzman. For more than a decade, TORCH has been a beacon for Humanities-led, interdisciplinary, outside-the-box research and practice. TORCH is a space in which researchers come together with external partners – from local to global, from communities, businesses and heritage organisations – to create exciting and impactful work which addresses some of the major challenges of our time.
