AfOx TORCH Fellows 2024

TORCH is delighted to announce three AfOx - TORCH Fellows have been awarded for the 2023 - 2024 academic year.

The AfOx Visiting Fellowship Programme is designed to allow exceptional African researchers to build international networks and focus on a project of their choice in collaboration with Oxford-based scholars. The Fellowship is open to researchers across all academic fields. Awarded Fellows are affiliated with the University of Oxford for 12 months, including ten months of virtual engagement and a two month in-person visit to Oxford during Trinity Term.

TORCH is supporting the three incoming Fellows with interdisciplinary projects from a broad range of research areas in the Humanities. Please click on their names below to learn more about their individual research interests.

Professor Alebachew Belay Birru, Assistant Professor of Archaeology and Heritage Studies at Debre Berhan University, Ethiopia. His academic host will be Catherine Holmes, Faculty of History.

Dr Gibson Ncube, lecturer in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. His academic host will be Dorothée Boulanger, Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages.

Dr Tolulope Osayomi, lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His academic host will be Erica Charters, Faculty of History.
