This event is part of the TORCH Art, Biodiversity, and Climate Network.

Dr. Thorogood is both a plant scientist and a talented practicing artist. For our first talk as the ABC Network, Dr. Thorogood will be talking to us about how he combines these two disciplines and methodologies in his research praxis.

Chris's research broadly centres on exploring fundamental processes in plant evolutionary ecology using molecular tools, with a specific focus on:

  • Host specificity in parasitic plants and how this can drive speciation.

  • Novel ecological processes driving speciation in carnivorous Nepenthes pitcher plants.

  • Taxonomic circumscription of the Mediterranean Basin floristic region.

Chris is also responsible for Public Engagement linked to research at the Botanic Garden and Arboretum in collaboration with the Department of Plant Sciences.
