Ashmolean After Hours: Young Rembrandt
Friday 24th April 2020, 5-10pm
Young Rembrandt, a landmark exhibition at the Ashmolean explores the early years of the career of the most famous of all Dutch artists, Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669). Beginning with his earliest known paintings, prints and drawings made in the mid-1620s, and ending at the moment he rockets to stardom in Amsterdam in the mid-1630s. Following the success of previous after hours events, TORCH will once again be collaborating with the Ashmolean for a special After Hours Event on Friday 24th April 2020 and we are now looking for students and researchers to take part!
This event is part of the Humanities Cultural Programme.

- Are you a student studying art influenced by work from the period 1624-1634 or Rembrandt directly?
- Are you a musician or performer who with an interest in 17th Century music or performing arts?
- Are you interested in engaging wider and public audiences?
We will be programming an exciting series of activities for the evening, led by students and researchers including:
- A series of 10 minutes bite-sized talks
- Interactive activities for visitors of all ages
- Musical, theatrical, or spoken word performances

Your expression of interest should include the following:
1. Full name, Oxford Humanities Faculty and position/area of study
2. Any previous experience in wider public engagement with research (this is not essential)
3. Brief summary of your idea for an activity, talk or performance
4. Any equipment/materials needed (if known at this stage)
All participants will receive support from the TORCH to develop their activity for the night, plus experience working within a museum environment.
The TORCH team will also be carrying out some audience evaluation, which we will pass on to all participants so that they have evidence of their work from the night, which may be useful for future funding applications etc.
The event will be documented via photography and a film, and will be publicised through the TORCH website, social media and newsletters.
