The call for 2026 applications for the Caribbean Oxford Initiative, ‘CaribOx’, is now open.
We are welcoming applications to the CaribOx travel grant programme to visit Oxford for research purposes. For 2026, we will be awarding 1 travel grant for two weeks in the UK, to take place during the dates of full University of Oxford term as below. Overview
CaribOx is a new visiting fellowship and travel-grant programme designed to support researchers across all disciplines based at Caribbean research institutions and to facilitate collaborations with researchers based at the University of Oxford. Applications for visiting fellowship and travel grants for 2026 are now open. We welcome applications from all academic disciplines and strongly encourage applications from researchers from minoritised groups (including but not limited to gender/class/ethnic background).
Travel Grants will include:
A two week in-person visit to Oxford during the dates of Oxford term in 2026. The Oxford term dates are as follows:
Hilary Term, 2026: Sunday 18 January to Saturday 14 March.
Trinity Term, 2026: Sunday 26 April to Saturday 20 June.
A University Card for access to online resources available through the University of Oxford, valid for 1 calendar year.
The full cost of return economy class flights to/from the UK.
A per-diem towards the cost of accommodation and subsistence while in Oxford.
Visa application and logistical support for travel to/from the UK.
Eligibility for Travel Grants
Applications are open to researchers in all disciplines.
Applications are open to researchers from doctoral student to mid-career (defined here as within no more than 15 years from the award of their doctorate or equivalent. In considering eligibility, we will make allowance for applicants who have had career breaks, and for established scholars who do not have doctorates).
Applicants are expected to:
Be a legal resident of a Caribbean country (including the Windward and Leeward Islands).
Be enrolled or employed by an academic institution based in the Caribbean, (including the Windward and Leeward Islands).
In compliance with UK visa regulations, commit to return to the Caribbean following the completion of the travel grant.
Arrange and provide proof of relevant approvals by their home institutions related to taking up the travel grant.
Possess a minimum of intermediate knowledge of English.

Fill out the application form. This includes submitting a research proposal that clearly outlines the proposed work to be undertaken during the travel grant, how the travel grant will contribute to your research objectives, and details of relevant activities such as conferences or trips to libraries or archives.
Attach a CV. Please make sure to add information about any career breaks or similar on your CV. We welcome applications from those who have taken a non-traditional route to academia or who have taken career breaks.

Evaluation
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
Quality of the research proposal, and evidence for how the travel grant will contribute to the applicant’s research objectives.
Demonstrated benefit to applicant’s research.
Potential outcomes, including longer-term research development.
Account will be taken of what other research funding the candidate is eligible to apply for.
