Join us for screenings of Neighbors by Lilli Kuschel and Cloud Alchemy by Nina Fischer & Maroan el Sani. Exploring crows and clouds, new urban communities, cohabitation and more-than-human perspectives – they offer unexpected, thought-provoking and seductive approaches to the daunting questions of our times.

Nina Fischer is Professor for Experimental Film and Media Art at the Berlin University of the Arts, Lilli Kuschel is assistant Professor and Artistic Researcher.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with the directors, chaired by independent curator, film programmer and writer Vanina Saracino, joined by Dr. Amanda Power, Associate Professor in History at Oxford University, and Dr. Eiko Honda, Assistant Professor in Japanese Studies at Aarhus University.

Neighbors (48 minutes) Rapid global urbanization is one of the most prevalent drivers for the loss of biodiversity, but crows are experts in adapting to city life. An observational and poetic documentary about the parallel lives of human and non-human animals in the city.

Cloud Alchemy (64 minutes) A glowing cloud hovering over a village becomes the catalyst for an ominous social divide. This cloud forces people to decide whether they want to survive on Earth by immediate climate action or whether to choose the Exit Strategy to leave the planet, posing key questions in relation to climate change and its potential to split society.ᅠ

Part of Everything is Connected, co-produced by the Cultural Programme, part of the Humanities Division at the University of Oxford and working closely with the TORCH and Knowledge Exchange.
