The Oxford Comics Network invites submissions to our blog! We are keen to publicise research on comics and graphic literature, and to facilitate conversations and collaborations between researchers, students, and practitioners. Blog posts should be max. 1000 words and authors should have permission to use any images they wish to include. Posts might include (but are not limited to) accounts of work in progress, summaries or reviews of new publications, discussions of methodological approaches.
Authors should send their blog posts or ideas for posts, along with a short biography and contact information, to the Network Convenor, Dr Alex Lloyd (comics@torch.ox.ac.uk).
Comics and graphic narratives, a form long under-recognised by mainstream publishers and academic institutions alike, have in recent years begun to receive the critical attention they deserve. They combine drawn and often painted panels with the written word to create a narrative form that is inherently interdisciplinary, demanding critical approaches from multiple fields, from literary criticism and visual cultures to art theory and architecture, not to mention the significant body of comics criticism that already exists. The Oxford Comics Network at the University of Oxford (UK) brings together students, critics, and practitioners from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds to explore the power, politics, and potential of the comics form.
