TORCH is delighted to be opening its doors to the public as part of the Oxford Open Doors weekend. The Radcliffe Humanities building has a fascinating history and has many hidden treasures. From 1770 to 2007 it was a hospital - the Radcliffe Infirmary - and was the birthplace of many locals in Oxfordshire. Many people will also remember having visited here when it was a hospital. It is where penicillin was first used in 1941.
The refurbishment has retained many original features. The building has also changed dramatically, as rooms that were once surgical theatres are now state of the art seminar rooms. Now home to the Humanities in the University of Oxford, including TORCH, the Philosophy Faculty and libraries.
We look forward to welcoming you to explore the building, as well as hearing your stories as part of its history.
Accessibility: step-free access to ground floor, lift available for other floors.
We are also opening the building site of the future Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities on Saturday 9 September, 10am-4pm.
