TORCH’s Performance Research Hub will host events on a termly basis.
Launched in 2024, the Performance Research Hub provides an interdisciplinary arena for researchers with shared interests within this field to come together to discuss the theory of performance and to cross-fertilise ideas and practice across a wide range of academic disciplines and communities. This is also a space for mutually beneficial partnerships between researchers and artists/practitioners.
‘Performance’ is construed as broadly as possible, to allow for synergies to develop between diverse interests and ways of working. For example, performance might encompass anything from poetry, theatre, dance, film, music, performance art, and performance studies to concepts, theories, histories, pedagogies, politics, and technologies of performance.
Made possible by the Van Houten fund.
What type of events will be considered?
All types of events are considered including seminars, workshops, performances, screenings and conversations. They must have a clear link to your research at the University of Oxford. We are looking to support events that bring researchers together in a multi-disciplinary space, participatory research with artists, creatives etc, that experiment and have the potential to lead to further collaborations.
Funding is available of up to £500 per event. This can be used for items such as:
- Refreshments/catering
- Screening licenses
- Travel for speakers
- Artist fees
Please note we generally do not pay speaker fees/honoraria to academic speakers but could cover expenses.
We suggest you contact us to discuss budgets and what TORCH can offer such as free room bookings and publicity on the website: performance@torch.ox.ac.uk
We also welcome applications for events which do not need funding, but which would benefit from association with the Performance Research Hub.
Applications will be assessed by the Performance Research Hub steering committee.
Who can apply?
The lead applicant must be an academic based in the Humanities Division at the University of Oxford, and more than one University department/Faculty must be involved. We welcome applications from researchers at any career stage (DPhil students, Early Career Researchers, research staff (whether college or department), as well as postholders).
How can I apply?
All applications must be made via IRAMS (SSO login required). The application is very simple and involves a short 'case for support' form.
Deadlines
We expect to have an annual deadline, but if funding is available we will open applications again during the year. The initial deadline is Friday 18 October (1st week Michaelmas 2024).
