Steadfast Tin Soldiers: The First World War in Story Papers, Comics and Graphic Novels, 1914-2014.

13 november

First World War stories rarely featured in the numerous British war comics published after the Second World War, but during the war itself, however, this had not been the case. Story papers – precursors to modern comics – engaged with the war in detail both during and after the conflict and more recently works have commented upon and accentuated the actual horrors of the First World War. Examining such a range of representations enables a better understanding of the shifting responses to the conflict between its outbreak and the recent centenary commemorations.
