TORCH Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation programme are hosting a seminar on 'The Politics of Prizing Translation' with speakers Professor Elleke Boehmer (University of Oxford); Adriana X. Jacobs (University of Oxford); Deborah Smith. This seminar will address the politics of the translation prize industry, with a specific focus on the Man Booker International Prize.  Prof. Adriana X. Jacobs is Associate Professor of Modern Hebrew Literature (Oriental Studies) and will speak about her experiences judging the Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize, the National Translation Award and the Risa Domb/Porjes Translation Prize.  Deborah Smith is the founder of Tilted Axis Press and translator of Han Kang’s The Vegetarian which won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize.  Prof. Elleke Boehmer is Professor of World Literature in English and Director of The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities. In 2014-2015, she served as a judge for the Man Booker International Prize.
