TORCH Interdisciplinary Futures - Funding Call

Bunch of blue cable lights

We are thrilled to announce the new time-sensitive “TORCH Interdisciplinary Futures” funding initiative, which is open to current MSt and BA candidates at Oxford. “Interdisciplinary Futures” aims to attract groups of students interested in ideas of interdisciplinarity and/or who are developing interdisciplinary projects.  Participants should include Humanities students, but can also include students from other divisions.

The initiative offers candidates the opportunity to host, e.g., workshops and reading groups. These communities of young scholars will be able to critically consider, e.g., historical, cultural, or aesthetic ideas or methodological issues. We are particularly interested in applications that take a culturally diverse and/or transnational approach to an issue or set of related questions.

This new initiative will provide senior mentorship and logistical support to successful applicants. The maximum expenditure will be £500, which will need to be spent by 30 June 2021. In-kind support includes advertising through TORCH’s website and social media, space on the TORCH online blog, bookings on TORCH’s zoom account (if dates available), and advice on events best practice and safety. We do not typically fund other websites, as we offer space on the TORCH website.

Applications should be sent to the TORCH team (torch@humanities.ox.ac.uk) by 27 February 2021, 31 March 2021, and 30 April 2021. Applicants will be asked to include the names of the proposed participants (no less than four), confirmation of their student status, and a budget breakdown. Successful applicants will be invited to contribute a blog post on the TORCH website.

We aim to respond to all applicants within 3 weeks of the deadline closing.
