World Literatures: Multilingual Locals and Cosmopolitan Dynamics

cosmopolitan event

Representatives of two major world literature research programmes will present the projects and explore the intersections between them. Prof Francesca Orsini (SOAS) leads the ERC-funded project on `Multilingual Locals and Significant Geographies: For a New Approach to World Literature', which explores the numerous, often fractured, and non-overlapping worlds of literature through case studies in north India, the Maghreb, and the Horn of Africa. Annika Mörte Alling (Lund) is a  participant in the Swedish project on 'World LIterautres: Cosmopolitan and Vernacular Dynamics, which explores, across numerous languages, how aesthetic values, genres, forms, literary communities and individual authorships are shaped in trade-offs between the local and the global, the national and the transnational, and between hegemonic and dominated languages in Asian, African, European and American contexts. All welcome!
