The Medieval Women’s Writing (MWW) research group aims to centre women’s writing as an interdisciplinary field, creating a space for researchers to explore and discuss the female voices of the past through a variety of approaches. Each term we host a research seminar series and a Chat with an Expert. We are also planning to hold a one-day workshop in June 2025.
- Research Seminar Series: This seminar series (three sessions per term) is designed to be a more formal research space to give students and ECRs the opportunity to present their research, covering a wide range of topics from the Global Middle Ages. The sessions are held in-person as well as online.
- Chat with an Expert: For this new format (once per term), we will invite an expert in a field outside of academia (e.g. heritage, publishing, curation) who’s work intersects with medieval women’s writing, and have an informal Q&A with them in front of an audience. We hope this will establish a network with greater impact beyond the academic “bubble,” to showcase alternative ways to talk about and engage with medieval women’s writing.
- MWW Workshop 2025: Building on our very successful MWW conference in June 2024, we wish to hold another one-day workshop that builds on our previous connections, with a more informal workshop style intention (primarily roundtables rather than traditional panels and papers). This year we will focus on theoretical frameworks for discussing women’s writing, how this relates to canon-building, medieval women in curation and museum spaces, and how to get the public to engage with medieval women’s writing. The Call For Participation will be advertised in early 2025.
