Anne MacKinney studied History and German at the University of California, Berkeley from 2008 to 2012. She completed her MA in History at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in 2015. Since 2016 she has been a doctoral candidate at the Chair for the History of Science at Humboldt-Universität, and since 2017 a member of the DFG-Graduiertenkolleg 2190 “Literary and Epistemic History of Small Forms.” In her dissertation, she explores the material, epistemic and political dimensions of paperwork in early nineteenth-century natural history, especially in Prussia. Her further research interests include the history of collections, the intersection of state administration and science and the cultural history of bureaucracy.
