The organisers of the 9th annual Oxford Postgraduate in Conference in Assyriology are excited to announce that the theme of this year’s OPCA will be: The Ancient Near East: Cultures in Contact
The aim of OPCA 2020 is to reflect on the importance of the ANE and its impact on the wider ancient world. We warmly invite all UK, European, and overseas students whose research relates to the field of Assyriology to join us in Oxford for a two-day conference at Wolfson College, 17th-18th April 2020. This year, we also extend our invitation to postgraduates from other disciplines whose research overlaps with Assyriology (incl. Classicists, Anatolian Studies, Biblical Studies etc.). Our aim is to provide a forum for students at the postgraduate and post-doctorate levels to present their research to a group of peers and to establish connections with colleagues.
We are accepting papers related to the following subjects, with the theme of Influence, Adaptation, Comparison, Connectivity:
- NE Literature and the Mythologies of Nearby Cultures
- Mind and Body
- Communication and Transmission
- Perceptions and Receptions
- Language Contact
- Boundaries and Margins
The abstract submission deadline is Friday 28th February 2020. Please submit your proposed paper title and a brief abstract (250 words) to opca@orinst.ox.ac.uk. Papers are to be 20 minutes followed by a plenary panel discussion.
