Abbi Flint is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Poetry, heritage and Community in the Faculty of English, working on a collaborative project with English Heritage called Inspiring Voices which explores the poetic associations and legacy of their historic sites.
Abbi’s research interests intersect archaeology, environmental history and the environmental humanities, often focused on people’s relationships with their environments and heritage. Her educational background is in archaeology, with a PhD from The University of Sheffield which explored human-reindeer relationships during periods of historic climate change. Before joining Oxford, she was a Research Associate in History at Newcastle University researching diverse experiences and meanings of paths and trails in post-war Britain as part of the In All our Footsteps project. Prior to that she explored public perceptions of peatland heritage within the WetFutures project at the University of Bradford. Abbi’s work combines archival and historical research with qualitative, mobile, and creative methods, such as poetic inquiry. Her poetry has been published in a range of magazines and journals, and she has contributed as a poet to other archaeological and historical research and engagement projects.
