Andrew Hann is head of the Properties Historians Team at English Heritage. The team is responsible for researching and writing about the 420+ sites and monuments that make up the National Heritage Collection.
Andrew is a social historian and focuses his attention particularly on country house and historic gardens and landscapes. He also has an interest in contested heritage, public engagement and working with volunteers in research. Andrew is the lead for research collaborations at English Heritage and manages the charity’s collaborative doctoral programme. His recent projects have included the NLHF-supported re-interpretation of Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Northumberland; a new garden interpretation scheme at Wrest Park in Bedfordshire and a temporary exhibition at Brodsworth Hall in West Yorkshire, shining a light on the extensive slavery connections of the site.
Andrew is currently working with colleagues on the development of Inspiring Voices, the English Heritage programme looking to explore the ways in which poetry can connect people and communities to heritage. He is a Co-I on the collaborative project, Poetry, Heritage and Community, which is an important part of the Inspiring Voices programme and builds on his earlier work in this area with Prof. Gerrard and TORCH.
