What does it mean to be civilized in the face of the climate crisis? My research uncovers a historical trajectory of modernity that envisaged a civilizational and ecological vision based on what I define as “queer nature.” This nature, the civilizational basis of truth, resembled the non-binary nature of microbial species slime mould. Such a civilizational vision made sense in terms of Buddhist epistemology and non-heteronormative love. I decolonise “the West”-and- “human” (of the particular kind)-centric historical meaning of civilization that led to the present-day emergency.
