José Antonio Morlesín Mellado

José Antonio Morlesín Mellado is a lecturer at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He teaches the course ‘Comics’ in the Creation and Design Bachelor’s Degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts. In 2016 he received his PhD at UPV/EHU. His research focuses on Graphic Design, specifically on the field of book cover design, with articles published in the journals EME Experimental Illustration, Art & Design and RIEV International Journal on Basque Studies. His current interests include practice-based research in Comics. As a comics author and illustrator, his work has been awarded several prizes in comics competitions and has been published in several magazines.

In 2021, Mellado worked on the How to Study Comics & Graphic Novels: A Graphic Introduction to Comics Studies, as part of the Oxford Comics Network.
