Luise Morawetz is a third-year DPhil student at the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages at Oxford, supported by a Clarendon scholarship at Hertford College. Her research investigates the correlation of function and linguistic features of Old High German, focusing on the pragmatic context of the Old High German glosses of the Murbach hymns (Bodleian Libraries, MS. Junius 25). Prior to her DPhil, she completed her MA in German Studies at the University of Leipzig and worked for the Dictionary of Old High German. She is also interested in modern German linguistics and the system of language, which she pursues, among other things, as a freelancer for the Duden Verlag. She currently teaches and tutors historical and modern linguistics at Oxford University and is co-authoring an Old High German and Old Saxon grammar and reader.
