Mai Misaki is a DPhil candidate in anthropology at University of Oxford. Her doctoral thesis ‘Christianity under Colonialism: The Case of Mā’ohi Protestantism in French Polynesia (working title)’ explores local Christianity as an instrument of anti-colonial resistance and a space where Mā’ohi people, the indigenous population of French Polynesia, express their indigenous identity, history, and religiosity. She is also interested in indigenous heritage transmission and has worked in different domains of cultural revitalisation such as dance, language, and traditional medicine.
