Mary Katherine Newman
DPhil Student
Mary is a first year DPhil in Medieval and Modern Languages Faculty where she specialises in Spanish. Her research focuses on the La Araucana, the epic poem written about the “conquest” of Chile and the beginning of the Arauco War. She is interested in using new methodologies, such as digital humanities and Mapuche ontologies, to highlight Indigenous agency within the text.
The Indigenous Studies Network has been awarded for two years (Hilary Term 2022 - Hilary Term 2024).
