Matthew Nicholls
Senior Tutor, St John's College
Matthew Nicholls works on 3D reconstructions of ancient Roman buildings. His digital model of Rome is the basis of a popular free online course (MOOC) on the FutureLearn platform which has been taken by over 40000 people, and has been recognised by numerous national teaching awards. It has also been used in print publications, talks, and in commercial applications including documentary broadcasts and computer games projects. After 12 years in the Department of Classics at the University of Reading, Matthew returned to Oxford as Senior Tutor of St. John's College. Matthew is interested in 3D applications for cultural heritage and education and in developing his models of ancient Rome in new directions, such as into a tourist app.
