Professor Laura Rival's main concern in working with indigenous and peasant communities over the last thirty years has been to document as best as she could their collective experiences, aspirations, struggles and transformations, as well as the enriching contributions these have made to Latin America's pluralism. Around the world, persistence, renewal and recognition of indigenous peoples in all their plurality have led to a rich endowment of scholarship. As we enter a turbulent and uncertain era characterised by a profound reworking of identities and values, we urgently need to rethink the way we relate to the natural environment, the way we communicate with each other, and the way we transmit what we know. Professor Rival is looking forward to exploring with you over the next two years the unique contributions that indigeneity makes to these burning challenges.
