Sebastian Richter is the Professor of Egyptology at the Free University, Berlin and the Director of the Project Structure and Transformation of the Vocabulary of the Egyptian Language at the Berlin-Brandenburgische Academy of Science.

In 2019, he was a co-organiser of the 'The 20th Oxford-Princeton-Vienna-Berlin-Mainz Graduate Exchange in Late Antique, Byzantine and Medieval History', which was co-funded by the International Partnership Scheme.
