My research focus is on German exile literature and political writing of the first half of the C20, in particular the work of Bertolt Brecht. I have been general editor of the English-language edition of Brecht (with Bloomsbury Methuen Drama) since 1996. Recent publications include, alongside editions of the plays and other writings, Brecht on Theatre and Brecht on Performance (both 2015). For more on these and a major AHRC-funded project on the cultural transmission of Brecht, see http://brecht.mml.ox.ac.uk/. I have worked with many theatres and companies in the realisation and mediation of Brecht productions, in Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Oxford and London – most recently consulting on the Donmar Warehouse production of Arturo Ui (April 2017). My own reconstruction of Brecht’s grand fragment, Fatzer, was premiered at the North Wall Theatre in 2016. In the pipeline: a collection of Brecht’s Dramatic Fragments and a Collected Poems (with Norton, New York).
