This is a very short, fast song. It’s full of excitement — trills, a leaping, staccato melody line, and maracas that punctuate the end of phrases. ‘Full fathom’ and ‘Come unto’ were at least partly for scene setting, and to introduce Ferdinand to the island, but this song has a direct purpose; to wake the sleeping group. So Woolfenden doesn’t linger on delicate phrases. The song rattles past, taking just a few seconds to sing. The accompaniment was recorded, so only Ariel would have been singing live.
