About the project:
Unlocking the potential for community decision-making on technology future
UNLH Community Lab - Building technological futures with citizens
The goal of the project is to launch a community lab to develop community decision-making processes about Artificial Intelligence. The community lab will be based at the Upper Norwood Library Hub (UNLH) in South London. The community lab will host 5 sessions in the year, each focused on one facet of AI, led by experts from Oxford University (from the engineering and computer science departments) and ORBIT RRI Ltd. There will be an associated volunteer programme, where a small number of community members will be appointed as technology futures stewards. Stewards will attend every session, and host one session where they will collaborate with the experts to help them design the session, facilitate discussions, and coordinate follow-up actions. The objectives of the sessions will be to help community members to learn about a technology, explore its potential impact locally and in the world, and brainstorm actions to influence the development and governance of that technology towards the public’s best interest.
