Translator-in-Residence at the Queen's College Translation Exchange Micro-Fund Project Announcement

We are delighted to announce that Dr Charlotte Ryland, Director of the Stephen Spender Trust and founding Director of the Queen’s College Translation Exchange (Oxford) has been awarded a TORCH Humanities micro-fund grant for her project. The Queen's College Translation Exchange will join with a range of partners across the UK to develop a national translator-in-residence scheme. The scheme is set to run in a consortium of universities and Literature Development Agencies. Each translator will run a series of activities in their host institution, enabling members of the university and general public to engage collaboratively and critically with the act of translation. The translators will also benefit from being part of the wider national network of residents, and the project as a whole will support efforts across the UK to decolonise and diversify curricula, research and literary translation.

Dr Charlotte Ryland said:

“I’m really excited to be moving ahead with this residency, which will enable us to work with great partners across the UK and to design a programme that is sustainable and far-reaching. I’m convinced that collaboration is the key to bringing multilingual culture and translation to the foreground in the UK, and this support from the Humanities Cultural Programme will really help us to develop fruitful and lasting partnerships.”
