Ever thought about translation as a career? Not sure where to begin? Join us for a talk and Q&A with TORCH Visiting Fellow Polly Barton, who will be sharing her experience of building a successful career in translation. Polly Barton is an award-winning writer and translator of Japanese literature and non-fiction. Her translation of Where the Wild Ladies Are by Aoko Matsuda (Tilted Axis Press, 2020) won the World Fantasy Award for Best Collection. Polly’s non-fiction debut, Fifty Sounds, was awarded the Fitzcarraldo Essay Prize in 2019.

Please note this event was rescheduled from Thursday 24th November 2022. There will also be the opportunity for attendees of this event to sign up for an exclusive translation workshop with Polly later in Hilary Term. We will share more details about this workshop and how to apply for a place after the event.
