Join us for a live masterclass with award-winning playwright and actress Lolita Chakrabarti. Chaired by Dr Sophie Duncan this event is part of her Visiting Fellowship and will explore the process of writing and staging her play Red Velvet.

Red Velvet first opened at the Tricycle Theatre in London in 2012. It returned to a sold out run at the Tricycle in 2014 before transferring to New York and then opened in Sir Kenneth Branagh’s inaugural season at the Garrick Theatre in London’s West End in 2016.  Red Velvet was nominated for nine major awards including two Oliviers.

Lolita Chakrabarti is an award-winning playwright and actress. Writing credits include the award-winning stage adaptation of Life of Pi, which will open in the West End in 2021, the ambitious Invisible Cities (MIF), Hymn (Almeida) and Red Velvet,  Acting credits include playing Queen Gertrude, opposite Tom Hiddleston, in Sir Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (RADA), Fanny & Alexandra (Old Vic) and Free Outgoing (Royal Court).  A Casual Vacancy (BBC1/HBO), To Provide All People (BBC2), Beowulf (ITV), Jekyll and Hyde (ITV), Riviera (Sky), Criminal (Netflix) and Defending The Guilty (BBC).
