The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) Micro-internship Opportunity

cct

Oxford University students are warmly invited to undertake a micro-internship with the Churches Conservation Trust in June 2023. This micro-internship was organised through the Careers Service Micro-Internship Programme.

The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) is a national charity caring for over 350 historic churches that are no longer used for worship. CCT is a seeking an intern to research how Church of England dioceses support parishes to care for church buildings. This will inform the development of CCT’s new initiative to provide conservation consultancy for the care and maintenance of historic places of worship in England.

What you will do:
Through this micro-internship you will contribute to this development work by researching the support currently available to parishes for the care of their places of worship. This will involve collating data on each of the 42 dioceses in the Church of England, and summarising the resources that they provide, such as online advice and guidance, maintenance schemes, grant funding. The main sources would be the diocesan websites and the website of the Church of England.

The main tasks would be to:

- Research and collate data on the church buildings in each of the 42 dioceses.

- Research and systematically record the nature of support that the dioceses provide to parishes.

- Summarise these findings in writing. You would be supervised by a member of the Conservation Team and would have the opportunity to present and discuss your findings with the Head of Conservation at the end of the internship.

What you will gain

This micro-internship would give you an insight into a national heritage charity, and the challenges of caring for built heritage. Your research findings will provide important context to inform the development of a consultancy service that is most appropriate for CCT’s stakeholders.

This internship is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in gaining an insight into the heritage sector, specifically the management of listed buildings.

Candidates will have:

- Ability to work independently

- Good IT skills

- Ability to systematically gather, collate and manage data

- Good time management skills No previous experience of the heritage sector is needed, but an interest in the management and conservation of historic buildings would be an advantage.
