Our research lunches provide a relaxed space for those who already engage with queer studies to discuss their work, and for those who are interested in queer studies to find out how it is being used and how they themselves might engage with it, without any requirement of prior preparation.
This week, Frances Whorrall-Campbell (MSt History of Art and Visual Culture) will be talking about the work of queer writer, artist and curator Ian White (1971-2013), and how, through a camp appropriation of modernism, White’s performances comment on sexual and labour politics in the twenty-first century. Lewis Roberts (BA English) will speak about the recent rediscovery of Simeon Solomon’s reputation as one of the leaders of Pre-Raphaelite painting. This talk will unearth two previously lost literary works in order to contribute to the history of an author who epitomises the enigmatic and obfuscating poetics of the Pre-Raphaelites.
Please note that the Queer Studies Network's event this term will take place on the communication software Zoom. Join our research lunch via this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81033582273. If you have never used Zoom before, you can download a free version and find video tutorials on their website: zoom.us. The zoom call will open at 12.45 pm so that zoom newcomers have time to settle in before we start at 1.00 pm.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via queerstudies@torch.ox.ac.uk or on facebook @oxqueerstudies if you have any specific requests or feedback, particularly regarding accessibility. Lockdown has been a good reminder of accessibility issues, so we would like to make sure our online events are as accessible as possible.
